An important part of this projects brief was to design a pool inclusively for a family member with challenges around mobility. Pure Blue incorporated a large shallow paddling ledge with a water depth of just 0.3m, alongside full-width entrance steps providing a gradual and accessible entry into the pool. From the shallow section, the 9m x 4m pool progresses to a 1.2m swimming depth and a 2m hopper deep end, creating a space that’s versatile and which the whole family would enjoy.

Before construction could begin, there was another unusual challenge to overcome. Three mature pleached beech trees stood within the location of the proposed pool. Rather than removing them permanently, the Pure Blue team carefully excavated each tree using our own machinery and relocated them to a new position elsewhere in the garden. We are delighted that all three survived the move and continue to thrive in their new location.

The pool itself was constructed using reinforced concrete walls and a screeded floor before being finished with a Renolit Alkorplan Vogue Urban reinforced membrane. A fully recessed Aquamatic automatic safety cover was incorporated into the pool design, keeping the cover discreetly concealed when not in use, while an AquaX 28kW air source heat pump provides the pool’s heating.

The completed project combines thoughtful, accessible design with a contemporary finish, creating a swimming pool designed around the needs of the family while sitting naturally within its established garden surroundings.
